Southern Railway 829

Southern Railway 829

Constructed by the Budd Company in 1949, this 52-seat lightweight coach was created specifically for the Southern Railway. Its service included prestigious trains like “The Southerner,” “The Tennessean,” “The Royal Palm,” and “The Crescent.” Currently, the Southern Appalachia Railway Museum owns the car, and it is leased to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum.

Throughout the year, the Southern Railway 829 operates on Chattanooga-based journeys including the Missionary Ridge Local, Summerville Steam Special, and North Pole Limited.
