TENNESSEE VALLEY MODEL RAILROADERS: OPEN HOUSE MARCH 2ND

Tennessee Valley Model Railroaders: Reveals Expansive Layout in 2024 Open Houses

The Tennessee Valley Model Railroaders, Inc. (TVMRi) is thrilled to invite the public to a unique open house event, showcasing the art and craft of model railroading. Scheduled for March 2nd, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., this event at 4119 Cromwell Road, Chattanooga, TN, is a perfect outing for families and hobbyists alike. No reservations are needed to dive into this immersive experience!

What Makes TVMRi’s Model Railroad Unique?

TVMRi’s 42×40 foot layout is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and dedication. Designed by Jerry Holmes, Ed Juaire, and Jim Thurston with inputs from members, the layout simulates the Rathole 2nd Division of the CNO&TP (Cincinnati, New Orleans, and Texas Pacific) and is a testament to historical accuracy and artistic creativity. The HO scale digital control operation runs 1,110 feet of track covering 18 scale miles, offering an astonishingly detailed portrayal of this significant rail route.

What Can Visitors Expect at the Open House?

Attendees will be treated to a spectacular display of model railroading, including meticulously built scenes from the early 50s through the mid-70s, focusing from Danville, KY, to Harriman junction, TN. The layout features well-known structures, bridges, natural landscapes, and local businesses from the era. This hands-on event also includes a challenging scavenger hunt, inviting visitors to engage with the intricate details of the model.

Why is Model Railroading a Worthwhile Hobby?

Model railroading is more than just laying tracks and running trains; it’s a multifaceted hobby involving woodworking, electrical work, painting, and arts and crafts. It offers a creative outlet and a way to connect with history and community. As TVMRi President Nick Giordano puts it, “It’s good, clean fun!”
