TENNESSEE VALLEY GIFTS HISTORIC NC&STL TENDER TO NASHVILLE STEAM
Bestowing a Legacy: Gifting the NC&STL Tender from Our Collection
Railroading history is a tapestry of connections, bridging eras, communities, and the many marvels of engineering. At the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, we’ve always believed in celebrating and preserving this rich heritage. Today, we’re taking another step in that direction.
It’s with immense pride and joy that we announce the transfer of a piece from our collection – a former Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis (NC&STL) tender – to the esteemed Nashville Steam Group.
A vital component in the grand theater of railroading, this tender has tales to tell. It faithfully served the iconic NC&STL Mikado-type locomotive and later became a part of the Louisville & Nashville’s maintenance-of-way service. Through changing hands and the passage of time, its significance remained undiminished.
And now, in the hands of the Nashville Steam Group, this auxiliary tender is set to play a pivotal role once again. By augmenting the water-carrying capacity of their locomotive, especially during extended excursions, the need for frequent watering stops will be dramatically reduced. It’s a gesture from us to further the cause of railroad preservation and to enhance the experience of those aboard these magnificent machines.
To the Nashville Steam Group, we hope this tender serves as a symbol of our shared passion for railroading history and our joint commitment to ensuring its legacy thrives for generations to come.
