TVRM Celebrates Railroad Icon Jim McClellan.

A Tribute to Jim McClellan: TVRM’s Training and Education Center Dedication

The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum (TVRM) stands as a testament to the rich history of railroads and the indomitable spirit of the people behind them. On Saturday, December 9, 2017, the museum added another chapter to this history by dedicating its Training and Education Center in memory of the late Jim McClellan.

Jim, who retired as the Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning at Norfolk Southern, has left an indelible mark on the railroad industry. The dedication ceremony was graced by his friends, colleagues, and notably, his son Mike McClellan, who has continued the family legacy at Norfolk Southern.

Throughout his life, Jim harbored a deep passion for trains, which reflected in his illustrious career. He played pivotal roles in the establishment of Amtrak, Conrail, and the modern iteration of Norfolk Southern through the acquisition of Conrail. But his contributions didn’t end there. Even in retirement, he contributed as a consultant and became a sought-after guest speaker at industry events. He also shared his vast knowledge as a lecturer at institutions like Michigan State University.

Jim’s love for the railroad industry extended to its preservation. He was an ardent supporter of preservation railroads, with a particular fondness for TVRM.

In honoring Jim McClellan, TVRM acknowledges the giants on whose shoulders it stands. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of railroad enthusiasts and professionals.
