All Aboard at the Tennessee Valley
Aboard the Tennessee Valley Railroad, you will ride a rolling time machine providing the sights and sounds of yesteryear.
The trip lasts approximately 6-1/4 hours and includes a 1-1/2 hour layover in Chickamauga, and a half-hour layover at Wilder Tower Monument in Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park during the return trip to Chattanooga. (Grand Junction departure time is 10am; return is approximately 4:15pm.)
Layover time allows passengers to stroll through the quaint downtown area, visit the Chickamauga Depot which houses a regional history museum, or walk a block or two to view the Civil War-era Gordon-Lee Mansion and Crawfish Springs city park. Downtown Chickamauga has several antique and variety shops as well as some hometown restaurants and coffee shops. Watch out for the Civil War cannons that stand guard over the main intersection in town!
A tour guide rides is usually aboard the train to point out areas of interest and relay fascinating historical information.
- Upgrade to dining car service and eat in our historic 1924 rail car
- Search out one of the restaurants in Chickamauga including Los Potros Mexican or Crystal Springs Smokehouse
- Purchase food at the Grand Junction Depot Deli before departure and take it with you
- Bring your own picnic (tables can be found at Crawfish Springs Park)
In the dining car, lunch service begins at 11:00AM for those passengers who have selected that option. Lunch is similar to the following menu: Baked turkey and swiss cheese croissant with all the fixings, cole slaw, potato chips, and fruit cocktail. Beverages include soft drinks, iced tea, or lemonade. The tasty dessert selection is usually chocolate fudge cake served with ice cream.
Cost for standard ticketing is $40 for adults and $30 for children age 3-12. A ticket upgrade is available which includes lunch served in the historic dining car during the trip.
New: Upgrade to Premium Observation-class seating in former Seaboard Air Line Railroad round-end tail car #6604. This car features booth seating in the front lounge and swivel chairs affording panoramic views in the rear lounge. The car will travel on the rear of the train in one direction of travel. (Please note that this is not a "dome" car such as the one offered on Hiwassee River Rail Adventure trips.) Riders in the Premium Observation Car will enjoy a dining car luncheon and unlimited snacks & soft drinks included in the price.
